Thought Experiment: Bitcoins main use becomes its blockchain ledger functionality but Bitcoin as a currency falls to the way-side.

I've been reading and listening to a lot of the latest discussions on the future of Bitcoin by influential people in the industry. Something that I've heard repeated a few times now is how Bitcoin as a currency is really just the tip of the iceberg, and that the trust functionality of the blockchain is the real shining star. See comment below from Marc Andreesen at the Coin Summit SF:
Kashmir: What do you think about Bitcoin as crypto-ownership, and storing things on the blockchain?
Marc: Yes. The blockchain is the core innovation. We want a whole sequence of companies: digital title, digital media assets, digital stocks and bonds, digital crowdfunding, digital insurance… If you have online trust like the blockchain provides, you can reinvent field after field after field.
Which is a brilliant viewpoint and get's me even more excited for the future of Bitcoin. But it also got me thinking - what does this mean for the value of holding an actual Bitcoin in the future if the currency use of it becomes less important? Right now many indivicuals are speculating that the value of a Bitcoin will go up, but I'm starting to think that Marc, other VCs (Ribbit), and Bitcoin developers are placing their bets that growth will happen elsewhere. In the future that Marc and others speak of, is there any real benefit of "owning" a Bitcoin ? I'm starting to question....
I realize that the real future of Bitcoin is unknown, but I'm curious what others think.
I hope you guys grasp what I'm trying to ask.

Will bitcoin hold its value as an asset used for preservation of wealth even if another alt-coin becomes the main coin used in real world transactions?

Bitcoin has a low 20 million coin cap, which should mean that it will increase in value over time as scarcity increases. However, Bitcoins transaction speeds are much slower than other coins such as Ethereum or Cardano, which makes it less attractive for real world exchanging of goods and services. Do you think in a scenario where, for example, Ethereum became the choice crypto accepted as payment, Bitcoin could still function as a store of wealth like gold? What do you see as Bitcoins main use in the Future?

Reminder:The main characteristic that made bitcoin (btc) blows up in the first place is being used as permissionless payment system. This is what created global demand for it...to USE it as global P2P cash to pay for stuff & services. Bitcoin has always meant to be a medium of exchange.

Why Bitcoin or BCH will Never be Adopted as Peer-to-Peer Cash for the Entire World

I believe that Bitcoins main use case is: the ability to buy what you can’t or shouldn’t with FIAT, store value, do cross border transfers, trade At Coins, donate privately and more.
The vast majority of FIAT users will always use credit cards and systems like PayPal to buy goods, which offer all sorts of guarantees, customer protection schemes, cash backs and refunds.
If somebody steals your credit card, and you notify your credit card company, they will reverse the fraudulent transactions, and give you your money back.
PayPal has similar schemes in place if somebody manages to hack into your PayPal account and do fraudulent transactions.
